BOOK & MOVIE CLUB

OF THE WOODLANDS

Book & Movie Club of the Woodlands

is a local cultural initiative that brings together readers and film lovers in The Woodlands - the suburbs of Houston, Texas.
We explore books and cinema through conversation - reflection on what stories mean in our lives.

We’re not your typical book club — we read, and we watch. We discuss books and films, novels and their screen versions, as well as movies based on the same story or inspired by the same work, created by different directors or in different cinematic traditions around the world.

To join, email bookswoodclub@gmail.com

When and where we meet

We meet on the first Monday of every month at 10 a.m. An unusual time, right? Most book clubs gather on weekends, usually around lunch or in the evening. We decided to keep weekends free for family and other activities. There’s a special joy in starting a new month, a new week, and a new day with something meaningful and beautiful.

We also hold occasional extra meetings when there’s something we can’t wait to talk about.

Our gatherings take place in cozy cafés around The Woodlands, a beautiful, green suburb of Houston that, for several years, topped the rankings of the best places to live in the U.S.

How we choose what to read and watch

We didn’t want to limit ourselves to “only modern books,” or “only classics,” or prize winners, etc. We read (and watch) whatever calls to us. Ideally, it’s something that exists in both book and film form.

We make our choices together, not without debates. In a world full of filters and artificial everything (even intelligence), we find joy in the rough edges of real conversation - in our different tastes, tempers, and styles. Those differences don’t divide us; they spark ideas, bring us back to what’s genuine, like going from bland supermarket fruit to the overripe strawberries of the summers of our childhood.
